ZAMBOANGA CITY, Zamboanga del Sur, Philippines — Lecturers who will function electoral board members in barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections this October is not going to get any further honoraria, Fee on Elections (Comelec) Chair George Erwin Garcia stated on Saturday.
“We had been supposed to extend [the honoraria]. We had been going to request a rise within the honoraria to be obtained by our academics. However due to a scarcity of funds, we simply determined to repair the quantity of what they are going to get,” Garcia stated in Filipino in an opportunity interview with reporters in Bongao, Tawi-Tawi, the place he monitored the voter registration there.
In accordance with Garcia, an electoral board chair will nonetheless obtain P6,000, electoral board members P5,000, and precinct staff P4,000.
In 2022, Comelec bought a funds of P8.4 billion for the postponed December 2022 polls. It requested for a further P10 billion because the election was postponed, however Congress solely allotted P2.7 billion within the 2023 nationwide funds, based on Comelec spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco.
“So far as the 8.441 billion pesos [goes], that’s solely sufficient for the unique honoraria of our academics,” Garcia stated.
He identified that the Home or Senate of their funds deliberations may resolve to provide further funding for the honoraria of electoral board members, particularly now that their honoraria for serving throughout the elections had been not tax-exempt.
